New York — September 28, 2006
For three decades Tom Gallagher has been a senior investment banker at major financial institutions such as Wachovia, Oppenheimer & Co. and J.P. Morgan Chase; during this time, he advised governments, CEOs, and investors on the aerospace and defense industry while leading scores of successful merger and financing transactions.
Now Mr. Gallagher is joining the Convergent Security Group (CSG), a unit of boutique investment bank Legend Merchant Group (LMG), as Head of Mergers & Acquisitions. The CSG is a uniquely integrated investment banking practice that provides value-added capital and strategic advisory services to public and private companies in the homeland and national security technology sectors.
“Enterprises focused on security — especially small-cap public companies and institutional investors — are fundamentally underserved by the investment banking community,” said Mr. Gallagher. “CSG will help management and investors recognize, build, and realize value in these enterprises.”
“Tom’s decision to join us supports the view of many industry observers that pent-up demand, technological innovation and increasing consolidation are creating major opportunities in the homeland security market,” said John Shaw, Co-Chairman and President of LMG. “As one of the more seasoned bankers in the defense sector, Tom will bring his unparalleled network and deal-making skills to our clients,” said Mr. Shaw.
Gallagher is the second industry figure to join CSG this year. He joins Scott Greiper, formerly Senior Analyst for Global Security at C. E. Unterberg, Towbin, who heads the CSG practice. “The addition of Tom Gallagher enhances CSG’s ability to provide its clients with powerful assistance in all stages of growth, from setting strategy to raising capital to completing strategic transactions,” said Mr. Greiper.
Mr. Gallagher retired in June 2006 from Wachovia Capital Markets, LLC where he led the aerospace and defense investment banking practice. He held similar investment banking leadership positions at CIBC-Oppenheimer Co. and J.P. Morgan Chase in New York. He began his career in finance as an investment analyst at Provident National Bank in 1975. Gallagher earned his BA degree (magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa) from the University of Pennsylvania and his MBA degree from the Wharton School. He also teaches finance, and studies technology and global security policy, at the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. Gallagher worked in recent months for The Boeing Company on its Secure Border Initiative (SBInet) capture team, which won that major homeland security contract earlier this month.
Legend Merchant Group, Inc. is a diversified investment bank based in New York with offices in San Francisco. LMG is an NASD Broker-Dealer; SEC-approved Registered Investment Advisor; and member of the National Futures Association, NYSE Arca and SIPC.
